Es una prenda muy particular que pasó de la minería a la calle y se han convertido en todo un clásico que vuelve a la pasarela urbana. Fue creado para los mineros norteamericanos a finales del siglo XIX, por el alemán “Levi Strauss”. Se trata de una prenda de tela de loneta, holgada, práctica, resistente, y fueron llamados los “Levi’s Pants”. A principios del siglo XX, pasó a la indumentaria infantil por su resistencia a todo tipo de terreno y trato. Recuerdo claramente, como si fuera ayer, cuando de niño mis hermanos y yo llevábamos las bragas como le decimos en Venezuela. Eran de “blue jean” y las dejamos de usar no porque pasaran de moda sino porque seguramente al crecer ya no nos quedarían. Recuerdo también cuando mi hermana los llevaba durante su embarazo y además eran súper cómodos a la hora de la lactancia. Pero como tiene su momento ya a los 40 y tantos años no creo que los lleve nuevamente, al menos que tenga que hacer labores pesadas en casa. Eso se lo dejo a las mujeres a quienes se les ha dado la concesión de usarlos este invierno y verano. Los hay de diferentes colores, telas, cortos y largos.
THE DUNGAREES:
It is a very special garment that from mining passed to the street and has become a classic that returns to urban gateway. It was created for American miners in the late nineteenth century by the German “Levi Strauss”. This is a piece of canvas fabric, loose, practical, durable, and were called the “Levi’s Pants”. In the early twentieth century, it went to infant clothing for their resistance to all types of terrain and treatment. I clearly remember, as if it were yesterday, when during our childhood, me and my brothers wore “bragas” as we name it in Venezuela. They were made of “blue jean” and we stopped using it not because it was old style, it was because surely we were growing up. But because every outfit has its time and I am around 40’s I do not think that I would wear it again, except if I have to do heavy labor at home. I leave that to women who have been given grant to wear them this winter and summer. They are made of different colors, fabrics, length.
